Potty Training Day 3.

We're done. Not the exciting, "yay we did it" kind of done, but the "it's not working" kind of done.

The last few days for me have been exhausting and frustrating, but also allowed me to step into the supportive encouraging mothering role. Frankly, Claire isn't quiiiiiiite there yet. She likes the idea of the potty, could spend all day on the potty, but she doesn't like actually going in the potty. So while I sit there and try to excite and encourage her, it would appear that I was torturing her. And I felt awful. So I think we'll wait until she really really wants to.

I think it'll be better that way. We still have tons to explore and it will be nice to not stop to go potty all of the time. Right?

  1. Hey Kate. You peeked my interested when I saw you were potty training and I just thought I might share something that I learned while working at a daycare center in high school. There were some kids who were ready to potty train, they did great at day care and were consistent, until Monday, their parents felt it was easier to let us do the training and keep them in diapers over the weekend. It would set us back weeks. Other parents wanted to be on top of it and really pushed it with their kids, some to the point of my boss' advice of spanking for accidents, her son was trained after one such spanking (I don't agree with ANY of this by the way!). Really, in all cases I saw that consistency was required at ALL times. Start with little things, like maybe she helps you throw her's and her sister's diapers away, says bye-bye to them, knowing exactly what is inside them. I once talked to a three year old and told him that I needed to go potty, he sat outside the closed door and then flushed for me, he saw that we all have to do it. Hope this helps. Oh, and the three-year old only had one accident in several weeks after that. But it was a longer process and it took us a while to get to that point. Good luck! Keep the faith!
