First Day of School!

Yesterday was the most stressful day of my life as far as schedules, and not having enough hours in a day. I'm still doing preschool with Claire in the morning, and it's been fun. It isn't anything serious, or super academic, just some fun quality time with the little ladies.

But yesterday was also my first day of school. At orientation last week, the teachers talked about the importance of always looking your best and carrying business cards to market yourself.

If you know me, I can work a straightener, and a tube of mascara, but after that I'm lost. The shade of foundation I need is called, "Casper" or "Glow-in-the-dark" and frankly, drug stores don't carry that.

This week I decided to check out some beauty books from the library as "research" or "homework". Turns out there are lots of tests and workshops in school and the instructors grade fairly harshly. There are tests on theory, which are written, and practical and state board exams. I figured if I got some books in addition to my textbooks, I'd learn other techniques and styles along the way. This week was Lauren Conrad's book. The majority of the book was useless and filled with information everyone knows, or can read on a product label, but I loved the actual walk throughs on her make up and hair styling.

Yesterday morning, I frantically curled my hair the LC way, and tested out a big cat eye, I am proud to say, the new eye make up went fantastically, and my hair wasn't terrible. Then the schedule got insane. I mean, literally insane. Aoife usually takes 3-4 naps and yesterday, she only got one. We did a really fast preschool, went grocery shopping, started dinner for Ross and the girls, have lunch, went Visiting Teaching and got to know a couple of the gals in the ward better. Honestly, I was stressed about time, but so so glad my partner set up those appointments and that we were able to go. Each gal is remarkable and I admire them in so many ways. I'm really looking forward to getting to know them better. After that, I had time to run home, grab my box of makeup (I needed some SERIOUS touch ups. turns out you can't rub your eyes after you have a work of art made out of eyeliner on your face.), shoes, and throw together a dinner. ie: a couple slices of pizza leftover from lunch, 2 diet cokes, and an apple. I was FREAKING out I was so nervous. We only have one car, so we picked up Ross, dropped him and the girls off at home, and I raced over to school.

I think I was shaking and sweating and nauseous I was so nervous.

When I got to the school, there was another gal there in my class. She is amazing. She just had her 8th, yes EIGHTH, child and was back in school. There were two other new gals, and a bunch of other students that started in January, or October. I was the only one when I walked into the classroom, except for Miss Pam who was just finishing getting things ready for class. When I walked up to introduce myself, she eyed me up and town, told me I looked great, and then I started to calm down more.

That night, the school had a competition going on, and we were able to go out when the winners were announced. It was fun, and I got to know some of the students on the floor a little bit.

Back to class. We're currently doing the hair coloring unit right now. I was so excited when she said that, I almost squealed a little. I love hair color. It'll be an exciting 6 weeks! Most of the class was about the business side, and how to be successful there, but tonight we should start learning about color.

It really is awesome to be in a room with such diverse, friendly, fun people. It's been a long time since I've been in that atmosphere. It was so easy to make friends, and everyone is so fun. I loved it.

In the middle of class, we got our kits. This was the moment I had been the most excited for since enrolling. Two GIANT boxes full of fun toys. It was like Christmas. Those who have been in the class helped us rookies in going through everything and labeling it with our names. I can't even describe how exciting it was for me. I guess with each new round of students, they get new things in their kits. Apparently, I have one of the coolest sets of clippers and THE hottest sheers ever. Oh, and I now own some $500 scissors. My clippers are a glittery red, and those hot shears? The guards are glitter. I'm so excited to play with and test out all of my new tools.

Oh, and a box of 5 heads. My new best friends.  Courtney, Angel, Kyle, Tiffany, and Destiny.

At first I was worried because it seemed like every other student had been doing hair since before they could walk, and I honestly know very  little. As it turns out, I know more than I thought I did and I do have a passion for this, that I didn't realize before. I am so excited and grateful for this opportunity. And especially grateful for Ross who doesn't mind seeing me for 30 minutes a day and for being so incredibly supportive. I have the best husband in the world.
